Shows three small wooden buildings: the central one is a small two-window cottage with a rain barrel, in front of a small wooden church building. At the far left, the third building (which has an outbuilding) is partly obscured. A stooped figure in the right foreground may be weeding the grave enclosure.

Addition Description:
Backhouse was resident in the Militia in Hamilton from 1865 and left the Militia in 1866. He then worked with the 4th Battalion. He then set up as a house and carriage painter in Hamilton and was based there until the late 1870s. This house may be his own.
